Ron M. Vachris is the President and Chief Executive Officer of Costco Wholesale Corporation, one of the world's largest and most respected retail companies. He began his journey in 1982 as a part-time forklift driver at Price Club, the warehouse retailer that would later merge with Costco. Over the past four decades, Ron has advanced through nearly every level of the organization, from warehouse management and real estate development to executive merchandising and operations leadership, embodying Costco's philosophy of promoting from within.
As a long-tenured leader, Ron has been instrumental in driving Costco's continued growth and operational excellence. Before becoming CEO in 2024, he served as President and Chief Operating Officer, overseeing global expansion and the optimization of Costco's merchandising strategy. Previously, as Executive Vice President of Merchandising, he helped strengthen supplier relationships and refine product assortments across multiple markets.
Beyond his professional achievements, Ron is deeply committed to philanthropy and education. Under his guidance, Costco has continued to expand its social impact through initiatives like the Costco Scholarship Fund, which has raised nearly $90 million and supported more than 2,600 students from underrepresented backgrounds.
Ron studied Business at Glendale Community College in Arizona while working part-time at Price Club in the early 1980s.
